Growth comes in many forms: sometimes it’s about mastering a new skill, and sometimes it’s about making a bold move, literally. We’re big believers that stepping out of your comfort zone often leads to the biggest breakthroughs.
In this edition of our "Get to Know Arbol-Us" series, we’re spotlighting Diego Cobian, Account Executive, who recently relocated to London. From navigating the fast pace of the city to finding unexpected inspiration in its cultural scene, Diego shares what made the move worthwhile and how it’s shaped both their personal and professional journey.
What motivated your decision to relocate for this role, and what made it worthwhile?
The majority of European funds are quite concentrated in London, which made the relocation decision a bit of a no-brainer. In a commercial role, being geographically close to your clients comes with clear advantages. Of course, doing business remotely is now second nature to us all, but still, there’s no real substitute for the kind of rapport you build through in-person interactions.
Since moving to London, I’ve been able to connect with clients face to face more frequently - either grabbing a coffee, dropping by their offices, or even working out together! Relocating has not only made me more effective, but it has also added a great deal of fun to the role.
What were your biggest adjustments when moving to London?
I had actually lived in London before, so in many ways it felt more like a homecoming than a big shock to the system. That said, moving back after time in Barcelona definitely came with its share of contrasts.
London is just bigger, pace is faster, commutes are longer, and day-to-day life can be noticeably more expensive. It took some time to adjust to that scale again - navigating the city, managing time differently, and even budgeting for the occasional £5 coffee.
But at the same time, being back in such a vibrant, global city brings a kind of energy that’s hard to match. It’s a trade-off, but one that’s felt worthwhile.

How has living and working in London shaped your experience at Arbolus?
There’s an incredible energy to London that’s hard to put into words. You’re constantly surrounded by driven, talented people doing exciting things across all kinds of industries, which naturally pushes you to level up too.
Professionally, I’ve really felt the power of that network effect - those spontaneous coffees that turn into new opportunities, events full of sharp thinkers, and the kind of environment that constantly sparks new ideas and connections.
For me at Arbolus, that’s translated into better conversations with clients, more creativity in the room, and a noticeable boost in the pace of my work. There’s always something going on, someone new to meet, and this feeling that you’re right in the middle of where things are happening.
What surprised you most about London? What’s a hidden gem (restaurant, activity, etc.) you'd recommend?
Something that’s always surprised me about London is just how accessible its world-class cultural scene really is. Of course, you’d expect a global capital like this to have amazing museums, theatres, and concert halls, but what you don’t fully appreciate until you live here is how easy it is to actually enjoy them. So many museums are free, and there are great discounts for young people at major venues, which makes it incredibly easy to dive into the arts.
If I had to recommend one standout experience, it’d definitely be attending an opera at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Even if opera isn’t something you’d usually go for, choosing an accessible performance can be a great way in - the setting, the atmosphere, and the quality of the production are genuinely unmatched. It’s an absolutely must-do London experience.

What advice would you give to someone considering relocating?
Don’t underestimate the value of being close to the action, whether that’s clients, colleagues, or the broader professional scene. Relocating is all about opening yourself up to new and often unexpected opportunities.
That said, it helps to go in with open eyes. London has a lot to offer, but it can also be intense. Know your budget, find a neighbourhood that feels like home, and take your time to settle in.
Most importantly, lean into it. The city has a way of rewarding curiosity, and if you make the most of it, the personal and professional payoff is well worth it.
