Get to Know Arbol-Us: Nicholas McNamara, Business Development Manager

In our latest "Get to Know Arbol-Us" employee spotlight, we’re featuring Nicholas McNamara, Business Development Manager, who recently made the exciting move from our Barcelona office to New York. Nick shares what inspired his move and the lessons he’s learned along the way.

What motivated your decision to relocate for this role, and what made it worthwhile?

Back in August 2023, I visited the Arbolus New York office during a team sales summit. Just one week in NYC was enough to convince me that this was the next move I wanted to make! A fantastic city filled with diversity and great food, combined with excellent career opportunities and proximity to clients—I was immediately sold.

What were your biggest adjustments when moving to New York?

To be honest, none! My partner and I had everything planned to a T, so from moment one, we really just had to enjoy ourselves and get stuck into the work. I had relocated to Barcelona four years ago when I first joined Arbolus, so I was quite familiar with the process.

How has living and working in New York shaped your experience at Arbolus?

The opportunity to live, first in Barcelona and now in NYC, has changed my career more than I could have imagined. Experiencing new cultures and working with motivated, ambitious people from around the world really does drive you to achieve more and set your sights on the next opportunity. I couldn’t be more thankful for the chance!

What surprised you most about New York? What’s a hidden gem you'd recommend?

The diversity of incredible, high-quality food in NYC surpassed my already high expectations. Special shoutout to Dim Sum Palace in Chinatown and Solid State Coffee in the Upper West Side - two of the recent staples.

What advice would you give to someone considering relocating?

I’d give 3 pieces of advice for before, during and after:

• Before: The opportunities for relocation are there for the taking. Work hard and be vocal about what you would like to do, and doors can open! 
• During: When you get the opportunity, grab it with both hands and try not to overthink it. 
• After: During the first 6 months, just say yes to everything you are invited to. It sounds simple, but you’ll make friends and make it feel like your home.
